In August of 2008, I attended my first Toastmasters International convention, where I saw my first World’s Championship of Public Speaking (WCPS). At the convention, I got to meet 3 of the 10 finalists: Maureen Zappala, Charlie Wilson and this week’s guest on Stand Up and Speak Up, Rich Hopkins.
Rich has a compelling story about agreeing to let go of something he’d worked his lifetime to hold onto and choosing the unknown, thus letting go of a piece of his identity.
Here are a few of Rich’s accomplishments:
- He is a speaker, author and coach.
- He writes a blog on public speaking called Speak and Deliver, which I read religiously and learn a lot from.
- He is featured in a movie about public speaking, “Speak” (a documentary from Tumbleweed Entertainment, based on the 2008 WCPS).
He also has experience overcoming his fear of public speaking.
I am looking forward to getting to know Rich better. Please join us on Thursday.
